“Born Like This” is a timely collection of insights from youth, adults and elders from Pine Ridge’s Two Spirit community. It is a cross section of Lakota LGBTQ-TS voices during a historic moment in their community. In July 2019, the Oglala Sioux tribal council passed historic LGBTQ-TS marriage and anti-hate crime legislation.

Shawnee is a member of the LGBTQ2S+ community – she’s Mohawk and identifies as two-spirit. She’s also passionate about supporting LGBTQ2S+ youth through her inspirational music and performances.

Two Spirit representation will be also on the lead float in the WorldPride/Stonewall 50 march right behind the Grand Marshalls, with Sheldon Raymore (Cheynne River Sioux), who will be representing Two Spirit Indigenous Peoples Association as a Community Hero. Raymore was nominated for the honour by the Two Spirit community for his work on numerous projects in the Two Spirit community and beyond.
